For your convenience, I will come and pick-up your placenta immediately following delivery, ideally, within the first 24 hours. The placenta should be placed in a Ziploc bag or plastic container, and should be refrigerated or stored on ice while waiting for pick-up. I encourage you to speak with your health care provider before delivery of your baby to clarify their policies on placental storage. Many hospitals have food safety policies that prohibit the storage of a placentas in refrigerators. Storing the placenta in a personal cooler or in a plastic ice bin is another option.

How is the placenta processed?
I offer a raw encapsulation service, which means I forgo the steaming process to save the vital nutrients and hormones that may be depleted once the placenta has been heated above 118 degrees. The placenta is first cleaned and then dehydrated for approximately 12 hours. Once the dehydration process is completed, the placenta is ground into a fine powder and packaged into vitamin capsules.
Since every placenta varies in size and substance, the amount of capsules it yields may vary significantly (between 90-200). The encapsulation process takes approximately 48-72 hours, at which point your placenta capsules will be hand delivered to you in your home.

When should I take my placenta capsules?
You should begin taking your capsules as soon as you receive them. The suggested dosage is two capsules, up to three times daily for the first two weeks postpartum. At which point you may choose to continue taking the pills or taper off and use them when you are feeling fatigue, experiencing stress, in a period of transition, or emotionally unbalanced.
How should I store my placenta capsules?
Since the pills have been dehydrated, it is necessary to store them in a cool, dry place. The technique of dehydration extends the shelf life significantly by removing the moisture, inhibiting the growth of yeasts, molds, and bacteria. Therefore, as long as the capsules do not get wet and are refrigerated properly they will be good for several years.
